Paul’s Peg > Star Wars Fan’s Choice Hall of Shame
The choices for Star War’s fans choice figure are still available to be voted on and I finally got a chance to check them out. You’ve got the usual assortment of background aliens that no normal person should care about, some of Padme’s Decoys, and Uncle Owen’s Dad. This thing is like a Hall of Shame for Star Wars. Here are just a few of the terrible, terrible choices:
Kitster Banai and Wald

The text for this one is priceless, ” Anakin’s little buddies have never received figures, yet they’re prominent on-screen.” Prominent on-screen does not equal worthy of being an action figure, rather its just one of Lucas’s biggest blunders.
Paul’s Peg > Star Wars Dio Contest Greatness
Hasbro had one of the coolest contests ever that went under my radar. Basically, it was to see who could create the finest looking diorama on the planet featuring Star Wars action figures and holy balls there were some fantastic dios on display. You can currently vote on your favorite of the top five entries they received if you visit their site right here, but here are my two favorites:

Joes For Tots ’09: The Contest That Helps Kids!

Joes for Tots is back! It’s the yearly contest that helps kids out by encouraging donations to Toys for Tots. This year we have an even better selection of prizes. Why start so early? Well, we want to remind you as soon as possible that when you see a drop box this year, you might want to think about helping out some young ones.
Let’s not draw this out though, let’s see what you can win (not all items shown in picture).

Paul’s Peg > And Now For Some Super Lame Star Wars Stuff
After geeking out over the new AT-ST, I knew that there had to be some Star Wars product coming down the pipe that had to be ultra lame to make up for it. I was right! Here’s a collection of some of the lamest Star Wars toys headed to a store near you!
Anakin Skywalker Desert Sport Skiff

This is after Anakin went native on Tatooine or something and what fashion sense! He’s rocking a poncho and a skirt! This Jedi is setting trends. And yes, that skiff was Luke Skywalkers from the Power of the Force line in the 1990s and it hasn’t gotten any better.

Show and Tell > Yard Yoda by MisterBigBo
by MisterBigBo
In light of Poe’s recent and good article in Toyfare on Star Wars licensed products, today I’m sharing my strangest Star Wars item, my Yard Yoda. When I bought my first home in 2004 I faced what would be generously described as a fixer-upper. Dr. Mrs. Bigbo’s contractor uncle was going to help us repair a home that had been nearly wrecked by an insane woman. She let trees grow into windows and into the house, had apparently a deep and abiding love of field mice and let them run wild inside, and painted a maniacally-cheerful and third-grade quality blue sky, clouds, and happy-face sun theme on a bedroom ceiling.
She didn’t have kids.
But my uncle-in-law’s tragic death in a motorcycle accident almost immediately thereafter left us very much by ourselves in reconstructing the home. In cleaning up the yard (we’ve loaded three dumpsters to date with crap left over from that nutbag; she drove home to Mississippi after the closing with the back of her Chevy Blazer filled with sawdust and a dozen chickens, ducks, and a goose), I came across this old Yoda hand puppet buried under years of mulch. He must have belonged to a kid of the original owner of the house. However he got there, he’s been a good-luck charm ever since. After all, we have managed to fix up the house. (more…)
ToyFare #146 (featuring my interview w/ Chris Spitale of Lucas Licensing)
Before I forget, ToyFare #146 is out in stores this week, featuring an interview by yours truly with the head of Star Wars (non-figure) licensing at Lucas Licensing, Chris Spitale. It’s a Star Wars-themed issue. (more…)
