Happy Great Unrest Weapons Pak Day!

Link to the all-in-one order page

For the first time since the Wind Raider, I think, I’m actually going to be attempting to order something off Mattycollector. I’ve been remiss about posting these “Happy…” Mattycollector posts since the subscription became standard and there have been few things people actually had to order, but the Great Unrest pack is probably going to be popular enough to merit it.

Here’s a review of the Weapons Pak at Fwoosh.

Trailer for He-Man iOS Game

The tongue-in-cheek intro reminds me of the New World trailer for Godzilla 1985, but maybe that’s just me being a ridiculously sensitive fanboy.

Anyway, the game looks fun, and as long as it doesn’t try to goad me into spending real money on upgrades and so forth (I’m looking at you, Jaws Revenge), I suspect it will be a fun time.

State of the Site

This week’s assignment from the League of Extraordinary Bloggers is to write a “State of the Site” post. I already do this sort of thing every so often, but it might be good to do a more thorough one. (more…)

NYCC Mattypalooza Panel News

It’s only been a few weeks since Power-Con, but Mattel had a few more reveals at their Mattypalooza panel over the weekend. Here’s the scoop from TNI:

  • More concept art for Castle Grayskull, which will have a perch for the Wind Raider, and a Kickstarter-like pre-sale for $250 apiece . Pics at TNI.
  • Clamp Champ revealed. He’s the July 2013 figure.
  • New Adventures He-Man revealed. He’s the second quarterly variant, and has a ball-jointed right wrist for sword poses.

All around good news, in my opinion. Clamp Champ and NA He-Man look fantastic, and the ball jointed wrist is a nice (if, and I have to say it, overdue) touch.

There was also some DC news, believe it or not. A Huntress prototype for the Club IE was on display, and we also got betters looks at Dark Knight Returns Batman and the Batman of Zur-en-Arrh, as well as Nite Owl from Watchmen.

Did I miss anything? I might have missed something. Let me know.

Monster Month > Poe’s Past Monster Reviews

In celebration of Monster Month, here are some of my past reviews of monstrous toys:

Sightings > Power Lords coming back – and no one told me, dammit? [UPDATED]

I am personally offended that whoever or whatever is apparently trying to bring back Power Lords sent an email to ItsAllTrue.net and not me. I was a huge Power Lords fan as a kid and, if I weren’t so lazy, I’m sure I would have made a much bigger deal out of this than NoisyDvL5 (no offense to Noisy, but even he admits he never had any of these as a kid). For heaven’s sake, the mention of Power Lords has been in my “bio card” at the bottom of the page for what, five years?

Sponsored Review > Engineer (Chair Suit) (Prometheus, NECA)

Let’s get one thing out of the way first: Prometheus is not a good movie. It’s a bloated, pretentious, incoherent mess of a film. However, I thought the aesthetic aspects of the movie were great, and that’s where this figure comes in.

I had high hopes for Prometheus. I’ve been a fan of the Alien franchise since I was eight or nine years old, and one of my favorite mysteries of that universe was the story behind the so-called “Space Jockey” (Prometheus calls them “Engineers”) in the chair on the derelict spaceship.

This unexplained and yet crucially important part of the Alien universe was so compelling to me. What was that thing? Was that long nose the trunk of an elephantine alien, or simply a breathing mask of some sort? Why was its bio-mechanical body, particularly its ribs, so similar to those of the xenomorph? What was that giant cannon-like structure it was sitting in, and why did he seem to be organically fused to it? Prometheus promised to answer some of these questions. And it did, I guess, but in an at best incomplete and at worst completely unsatisfactory way. And it was really poorly written, too.

But no matter – I’m not here to review the film. The fact is, regardless of how it got here, I now have an action figure of the Space Jockey – something I’ve always wanted but never imagined I’d have. Now that I’ve got him, I can imagine he’s whatever I want him to be.

Toy Aisle Trolls > Disorder of the Phoenix

Toy Aisle Trolls is a feature highlighting acts of vandalism to in-store toy items. If you find a ruined package, a stolen figure, a swapped-out figure, or any other such acts, take a photo (cell phone photos are fine if they’re not blurry) and email them to poe@poeghostal.com.
