Batman: Arkham Asylum figures possibly awesomest things ever made by DCD

Seriously. OK, so the articulation isn’t great, and Batman really should have black and not blue highlights (and if you don’t think DC Direct will be selling that repaint at some point, have I got a bridge for you). And of course, DCD’s overly-cautious nature has them striking when the iron is red-hot, a good fourteen months after the game’s debut and months or perhaps years before the sequel hits.

But that doesn’t make these figures any less supremely awesome. I’m already thinking this entire set may be worth a pre-order. Thoughts?

Where are all of the awesome Bat-gadgets from the game? Thought that's why Bats has 'grippy hands'. Not convinced by the deco on the carded pic via DCDirect website either. Like many have said, I might wait to see final product on the shelf.

I haven't played the game… but I love that harley so much I'm afraid my wife will get jealous…

seriously though.. its a great looking figure

  3. these look good, but im not preordering them, ill wait for some reviews and to see them in person. after those awful watchmen figures that, even with the stands, refuse to stay standing on my shelf, im very apprehensive about buying another dcd fig. i dont need alot of articulation to be happy, but the figure should be able to stand on its own, hopefully without stand, but even with.

I preordered the Batman Reborn assortment from DCD and am already regretting it even though they don't come out for 2 months. You can always count on one figure in a DCD assortment to have a loose knee or a wrist that breaks off instantly, not to mention the paint. The AA figures will be an easy pass for me.

That Harley looks phenominal. I'm not going to pre-order, though.

With DCD, I have to wait until the final figures come out. The Indigo lantern from the Blackest night wave is a prime example of why I don't pre-order from them. The final figure was a shadow of the prototype.

  6. Yeah, that's always the issue with DCD figures. Often the paint is subpar and the articulation is weak, but you always know that going in.

The big problem for me is when a figure is well done, they're near impossible to find. It took me FOREVER to track down HUSH Harley Quinn a few years ago. I absolutely love that figure – as a display piece.

In this case, it's going to be either the figures end up horrible or are going to be really good and impossible to find. Sigh, I guess we'll wait 8 months and see what happens.

Are we all really still so naive that we think the final product will look as good as these? I spent years being wowed by DCD proto photos only to be befuddled as to why I was disappointed when I got the figures in hand. The articulation is a factor, but DCD also has a habit of dropping their paint app quality drastically from prototype to production.

I actually don't have many DCD figures. I do have Ra's Al Ghul, he's pretty sweet, though I wish he were more in scale with DCUC, but I digress.

@PrfktTear: DCD's usual MO is to release them all as singles, then tweak the paint apps and put them out in a box set 6-12 months later.

Just to reiterate a little, the designs are sweet, but the lack of articulation, 'pre-posedness' and bad QC track record puts me off.

I tend to break my own rules for Superman figures as I collect him, but then they are for display only.

And yes, the DCD Cyborg Superman is, in my opinion, the best figure they put out.

Oh and Mattel have said in one of the Q&A's that they don't have the licence to produce Elseworld figures. More the pity.

Like Feng, I haven't played this game either, so these aren't exactly doing a lot for me. I do however really like that Harley. Are these only going to be available as a set, or will they be available individually too?

That is a better picture of the Batman figure…colors are toned down.

Good product, but not for me. I just can't do DC Direct's general philosophy of "pre-posed but with articulation."

It's just an opinion, of course, but there are very few, not even a handful actually, of DC Direct figures that outshine DCUC on the whole. Yes, they may have better paint details & use more unique tooling & the like, but the final effect is just inferior.

Put it this way, the only DC Direct figure I wouldn't swap for an updated DCUC figure would be Cyborg Superman, as it's the best fig they've ever made. That's also assuming that Mattel will never get the chance to do Elseworlds figs (Red Son is all I'm thinking about here), & not counting artist specific figs, 'cause them DC Direct New Gods figures are pure bliss, & I feel, highly underrated.

they are handsome looking, no doubt, but dcd has burned us too many times for me to get excited… brittle plastics, inferior articulation, spotty paint aps… i'm out of this line. and believe me, i'd LOVE to be in!! AA had some fantastic designs for those characters.

  14. I'm really digging that Joker, especially since he comes with Scarface. Two rogues for the price of one! 🙂

  15. Dead Man Walking

@Nik: No doubt the color won't be as good as the promos, but it will still be a hell of a lot better than DCUC product.

This is why good DCD figures trump the majority of DCUC figures for me–tons of detail and a good amount of paint.

  16. Fengschwing

I've never played the game, so maybe I'm not the best person to offer an opinion, but I'm not overly moved by them.

DCD has really withered on the vine for me, they just break too easily.

  17. I really like how Joker, Quinn and Scarecrow came out but Batman just looks weird, I think it's the black and blue look.

But I absolutely adore that Harley Quinn. Shame the paint won't be that good.

Colors aside, Batman does so much punching in that game he really needs fists.
