I’ve got big plans for lots of posts in the near future, but for now I’m really busy, so here’s a gallery of shots of Roboto with Spy Monkey Creations’ Tools of the Master Strategist. Enjoy! (more…)
New PGPoA Exclusive: The Sword of Ages!

For millennia, one of the most honored and feared weapons of humanity has been the sword. There have been many famous swords–Excalibur, Durandal, Anduril, the Power Sword, the Sword of Omens, the Master Sword–but The Sword of Ages is not one of these. It is the sword of the footman, the mercenary, the knight errant. A simple blade, functional, reliable, easily replicated…but to its owners, indispensable. (more…)

- The Grizzlor early reviews are coming in. You can find Pixel Dan’s review in the previous post, and here’s Fwoosh’s first look. Fwoosh also has first looks of King Grayskull and the second Weapons Pak.
- The Guess-the-Weapon contest is over and a winner has been chosen. I’ll announce both the weapon and the winner very soon (hopefully tonight, but early next week at the latest).
- Got a ton of reviews in the hopper–pics are taken, now I just have to the really hard part: the writing.
- Count Dr. Mrs. Ghostal and I among the converted for the new BBC show Sherlock. We’ve only watched the first ep, but it’s fantastic. Of course, due to the lag between the BBC and BBC America, the DVD and Blu-Ray actually come out next week, before the season has even finished airing over here. Oh, and the guy who plays Holmes is named Benedict Cumberbatch. Only in England.
- Speaking of Sherlock, and therefore Steven Moffat, and therefore Doctor Who, the next Doctor Who figure assortments contains the usual crazy gaggle of robots/monsters/smartly-dressed types. God help me if I ever get into Doctor Who.
- You should immediately go play Organ Trail, an Oregon Trail tribute game about zombies. It’s awesome.

Quote of the Day: “A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals, and you know it.” –Agent Kay, Men in Black
- In case you missed it, I was once again a guest on OrccaCast–this time for the whole three hours! Topics include The Worst Witch, the Rodian language, political ads and oh yeah, toys.
- Hoping to have the reveal of the PGPoA Spy Monkey Creations exclusive by the end of the week, and therefore I’m shortening the contest to end on Thursday at midnight, instead of Friday. So far only one person has guessed correctly. Remember, you can make as many guesses as you want.
- You know what I miss? The old Mez-Itz. Not the Munny-rip-off ones Mezco makes now, but the old ones that were more like block figures with great sculpting. Mezco should have revived that format as a Minimate competitor, rather than going the “hip” vinyl route. But it’s just one more in the long chain of poor Mezco toy-related decisions, starting back around the time they got the Heroes license. Seriously, what a run it’s been for them since then: Heroes becomes awful just as the figures come out, The Spirit bombs, The Wolf Man bombs, Kick-Ass has one good weekend, and Scott Pilgrim didn’t set the world on fire either (and even fans of the comic aren’t exactly excited). The filmmakers of The Green Hornet should be worried. Once upon a time, Mezco made some of my favorite toy lines ever–Silent Screamers, Mez-Itz, Hellboy (movie & comic), and the Goon. Now the only thing they can seem to get right is Living Dead Dolls.
- Anyone else doing National Novel Writing Month? I’m going to give it my perennial shot this year. I’ve only written one sentence so far. But it’s a doozy. Really.
- You may have noticed the new Amazon and TRU ads on the sidebar. PGPoA is now an affiliate of both. The holidays are coming. That is all.
- How awesome is it that we’ve got the Bastards of the Universe here now? I mean, seriously.
Spy Monkey Creations’ newest item revealed: The Hammer!
Happy Halloween, all! To celebrate the day, Spy Monkey Creations sends in this exclusive pic of their newest exclusive. It doesn’t have a name yet, but as you can see, it’s a giant hammer. (Note: this is NOT the new PGPoA exclusive.) (more…)
Contest > Guess the PGPoA Spy Monkey Creations Exclusive!
I’ll be announcing the PGPoA-designed Spy Monkey Creations exclusive in the very near future, but before that, I thought it might be fun to let you guys take a guess as to what it will be. The winner gets a free one! (more…)

- Spy Monkey Creations has the following status update on their Facebook page: “Brian-Man has finished the sculpt of our next offering. It is truly of titanic proportions. (wink, nudge) Come see it in person at the Long Beach Comic Con this coming weekend. Fri. Oct. 29-Sun. Oct. 31. Details on the sale date coming soon.” I think there are going to be some happy fans out there.
- Speaking of SMC, work is still progressing on the new PGPoA-exclusive item. We’re just hammering out the last few details regarding colors and plastic.
- Mattel’s replica Ghostbusters PKE Meter will go on sale December 1, at a price of $60. The Diamond Select Star Trek Communicator was about $30; the Tricorder ran about $45. As usual, I think the Mattycollector item is just this side of overpriced. It depends on the quality, though.
- Yet again, I’m considering branching out a bit on the blog with some non-toy stuff. I’ve posted a poll about it to the left, but already it seems you prefer to keep the focus on toys. And I understand that.
- Check out Mezco’s upcoming 6″ comic-based Scott Pilgrim figures. Will this finally break the Mezco curse of their last half-dozen or so licenses? Anyone remember Tikimon? I actually liked those.
- The Four Horsemen donated this DCUC Green Lantern 2-up for a charity auction. The proceeds go to the Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA, and the Horsemen’s reign of awesomeness continues.

- DST answered my Minimate question. Bummer, but not unexpected. Still, Hellboy MMs seem like a no-brainer to me. BTW, the ones above were created by Minimate customizer extraordinaire Bob Harris. Click the pic for more pics of his many customs, including Dr. McNinja and Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.
- Mattel has posted some Shadow Beast pics on their Facebook page. Looks pretty neat, but I prefer Gygor.
- I’ve got a bunch of reviews I owe you, including, of course, Roboto. Planning to get to at least one of them tonight.
- I recorded a guest appearance on OrccaCast last night. It should be up shortly before Halloween, I believe. I’ve also got an appearance on another pretty big podcast fairly soon, but I’m going to save that news for now.
- Finally, I’ve received a test shot of the PGPoA-exclusive Spy Monkey Creations accessory. Some changes were needed, but once I get the revised test shot, I’ll go ahead and make the announcement.
- Question for today: what would you name a subscription for 6″ Back to the Future figures on Mattycollector? My submission is Club Flux Capacitor. Kind of a mouthful, though.
Dark Arsenal of the Space Pirate Pics
I don’t have my own Dark Arsenal of the Space Pirate set yet–mine is complementary, so Spy Monkey Creations is rightly focused on getting you folks’ orders out before mine–but some of the first pics have shown up on the Web, and they’re so damned awesome I can’t resist posting some of them.
Click each pic for a larger version. To order your own set, check out Spy Monkey’s store.
Of course, I’m also obliged to point out that there are a good dozen or so Dread Axes of the Horde Darkness left. Grizzlor comes out in just a few months, folks, and it seems to me that axe might be a perfect fit…
Spy Monkey Creations announces the Dark Arsenal of the Space Pirate
I know a lot of you have been interested in Spy Monkey Creations stuff, but have held off for one reason or another. Well, I predict many of you are about to cave in like a Twinkie with no filling:
That’s right. New arm attachments for Trap Jaw, from right out of the cartoon. And not only that, you also get a hilt for the sword/swatter and a handle for the energy bow, so any figure can use them. Oh, and you can get silver versions for the upcoming Roboto. Yeah, you know you already want to know when you canorder these. Read on. (more…)
